Perfect Dream Start for the 'Second Team': SG Ddorf-Unterrath 2 Crushes Langenfeld 3 with 8:0
September 14, 2026
What a start to the new badminton season! The second team of SG Ddorf-Unterrath sent a clear message on Sunday. From the first moment in their home hall, there was no doubt about who would leave the court as winners.
Doubles strength sets the early lead: The foundation for the rout was laid in the doubles disciplines. The first men's doubles pair, featuring veteran Dennis Klein-Helmkamp (2023 West German Champion O35) and his strong partner Rui Di Wu, showed great chemistry despite playing together for the first time, securing the first point with a confident 21:13, 21:11 victory. Shortly after, the exceptional newcomer Yong-Hwan Noh and Yu Guo followed suit in the second men's doubles (21:16, 21:17). The women's doubles provided real tension: Heidi Bender, known for numerous German championship and international age-class titles as well as multiple World Championships, and her partner Minna Lieske demonstrated steel nerves in the crunch time of the first set, laying the foundation for a perfect doubles sweep with a 23:21 and 21:16 win.
Nerves of steel in the three-set thrillers: Anyone who thought the match would be a walk in the park faced tough resistance from the visitors in the singles. But the Düsseldorf players showed phenomenal fighting spirit. Both Dennis Klein-Helmkamp in the first men's singles (after a heavy 6:21 loss in the first set) and William Wang in the second men's singles turned their matches around after dropping the first set, winning in the third game. The emotional highlight of the day was delivered by Minna Lieske in the women's singles. In a highly dramatic match against Nicole Osthoff, she narrowly prevailed in the deciding set with 21:19. Rui Di Wu made short work of the third men's singles (21:10, 21:10), adding more to the tally. The finishing touch was put by the mixed doubles. Yong-Hwan Noh and Heidi Bender dominated the first set 21:13 and led 8:0 in the second set.
With this perfect debut, SG Ddorf-Unterrath 2 takes over the league leadership immediately.
