SG Ddorf-Unterrath 3 Makes Statement at Season Opener, Defeats BC Düsseldorf 3 Away
September 21, 2026
SG Ddorf-Unterrath 3 made a statement at the season opener, defeating BC Düsseldorf 3 in their own hall.
The star of the day was Yu Guo, who reinforced the team and led them to victory alongside captain Abhinav Jain.
From the very first men's doubles (MD1), it became clear why Yu was such a significant addition for Unterrath: paired with captain Abhinav Jain, he showed nerves of steel. In a highly dramatic closing phase, the two defeated the opposing duo Till Schirrmacher and Simeon Linz 21-18 and 23-21. Yu time and again landed the decisive blows and demonstrated perfect harmony with his team captain.
But the true Yu Guo show came in the second men's singles (MS2). Against Kirill Kusnezow, Yu dominated the first set at will, sweeping his opponent off the court 21-11. When the second set ended in a close 19-21 and the match seemed to be slipping away, Yu showed his class and mental strength: in the decisive third set, he gave Kusnezow no chance whatsoever, winning 21-9.
Yu's masterclass was supported by a strong team performance under the leadership of captain Jain, who also won his own singles match (MS1) in quick succession 21-8 and 21-15. Further victories by Stefan Bültel in MS3, Jingyi Qu in women's singles, and the mixed doubles pair Raj/Zhang completed the deserved 7-1 overall victory.
